2/21/01 -Leaving Manchester-
We woke up at around 5:15 and couldn't get back to sleep, thanks to the heat, the snoring Asian guy and the trains constantly passing nearby. We decided to get an early start and head to London. Asked for directions to the nearest bus stop (to get to the train station), but naturally they were no good. We were passed by a bus we wanted, but we couldn't flag it down. The only stop we saw wasn't even in service, so we ended up walking the entire way to the rail station.

Rail passes validated and we were on our way. 3 hour ride to London-Euston. Currently sitting next a nice lady who told us to "watch out for the dodgy men" at the Ministry of Sound. We talked sports with her for a bit as well. We'll be getting to London around 10:30 or so, so hopefully we'll have time to check out some sights (after we check into the hostel and eat). Have to remember to pick up Time Out, so we know what clubs to hit and when.

Question: do people know how to operate their cell phones here? We've heard some awful (and loud) rings, and people don't seem to want to shut them off. Had to listen to a fire alarm-like ring go off 5 times in a span of 10 minutes right next to me. Enough already... baa!
-London-
Made it to London. Next step: figure out the tube and get to the hostel. We were fine until we got outta the tube and up on the street. After that, all we knew was that the hostel was supposed to be around the corner a little ways. That according to the map in the guidebook and from what I remembered from the online map at the hostel's Web site.

We fell into the classic UK trap. No street signs and address numbers not correlating to the numbers across the street (I'm standing next to #12, and I'm looking at #27 across the street... huh?). Still not used to this whole vehicles on the left side of the street thang. Especially when it comes to the random 5-6 way intersections. Anyway, we went completely the wrong way, and it took forever to turn around and find the place. At least we checked in alright.
