Snowy Owl
Bubo scandiacus
Snowy owls are usually found in Canada and Alaska, but occasionally winter as far south as Washington and Oregon (as evidenced by the Pacific Northwest coast irruption of 2005-06). The female of the species is generally larger than the male, and sports more black accents on its plumage, contrasting with the nearly stark white male.
