Bubo scandiacus
In late 2005, Western Washington was treated to an "irruption" of snowy owls. Apparently a highly successful breeding season has driven younger owls further south than normal in
search of food. Owls have been spotted along the Olympic Peninsula, near Olympia and even in Seattle's Discovery Park. I traveled to Ocean Shores for a brief opportunity to see
five or six of the owls that had been spotted near the coast.
