Best of 2008: Dylan Tucker-Gangnes chases the ball

October 26: My expanded role with the UW athletic department led to new opportunities to shoot not only more football games, but other sports that I haven't covered in the past. Soccer is a difficult sport to shoot. The ball can travel any number of directions at a moment's notice and your subjects are doing a lot of running and looking down half the time. Having only shot one soccer match prior to this year, I was still having a difficult time settling in and finding a way to capture dynamic images from the pitch. I was fortunate that the Huskies' late-season tilt against San Diego State took place on a gorgeous autumn Sunday, and managed to come away with several decent images. This shot highlighting UW midfielder Dylan Tucker-Gagnes stood out... a great combination of pose, expression, effort, isolation and gorgeous light. It was a satisfying reward from a sport I'm still learning to shoot.
