May 24: When I arrived in Yellowstone after a 12 hour drive from Seattle, I got wind of an active red fox den. The only problem was that the den was located another four hours away in Jackson, south of the Grand Tetons. Having never had a good red fox photo opportunity, I couldn't pass up the extended roadtrip to try my luck. It rained the entire drive south and I saw almost no wildlife along the way. When I arrived in Jackson, I was halted by a parade and it took several tries before I successfully navigated my way through town to the den. After waiting in the rain for an hour, momma fox appeared ever-so-briefly, greeted by a rambunctious group of cute kits. Then she disappeared and the rain came back. Ten hours on the road for ten minutes of action, and it was worth it.
