April 6: One of the highlights of our New Zealand trip was getting another chance to swim with the wild dolphins of Kaikoura. We spent an hour snorkeling with an estimated 800 common and dusky dolphins. It's one heck of a way to spend a birthday. I brought an underwater housing for our little Canon G10, and while the swift marine mammals proved to be an elusive target, this one lingered just long enough in the shimmering water.
