May 29: This is a bonus photo, since it was taken by my wife Jenn. We visited LeHardy Rapids in Yellowstone hoping to find the colorful and dynamic harlequin ducks that frequent that area of the Yellowstone River. The ducks were nowhere to be seen, perhaps chased off by a couple of American white pelicans that were perched on the boulders in the rapids, looking for fish. While I stayed upriver to get shots of the pelicans up close, Jenn stationed herself further down and was able to frame this image of the pelican standing patiently, waiting for a snack to come by. She experimented with longer exposures, allowing the rushing torrent to soften and blur as the pelican stood motionless. It's Jenn's best shot of the year, and I consider it the best photo she's ever taken.
