On the Way Out
Our visit was over, but the $500 (per person, per one hour visit) was well-spent. Gorilla tourism is big business for Rwanda. In September of 2007, a relatively slow month for tourism, Rwanda raised over $800,000 from gorilla permits alone. The money is, in theory, funneled back to maintaining and protecting the gorillas and their habitat as well as the surrounding communities in the area.
