Despite the patience, despite the effort and despite closing to within 20 feet before her prey noticed, the lioness failed to bring a zebra down! I kept looking around for other lions, since lionesses often hunt in cooperative groups, but they were nowhere to be found. The zebras scurried across the road and into the trees. A moment later, the rest of the lions finally showed up. They had let the prey slip right on by without bothering to help.
