Black Rhinoceros
Diceros bicornis
Ngorongoro's most famous denizen is the black rhino. Unfortunately, it's more famous for its rarity than anything. This highly endangered species is quite rare in east Africa, with only 16 of them found in the crater. We were fortunate to see four during our two days here. Unlike the rest of his slow moving brethren, this rhino was quite active, running about the grassland chasing warthogs.
