The river otters at Trout Lake are a must-see for me, ever since we first saw them on the 2005 trip. From mid-June through early July, they can be spotted at Trout and Buck Lakes, often
feeding on the spawning trout at an inlet right near the trail that surrounds the lake.
Unfortunately, the otters don't stick to a regular clock. Sometimes they'll show up in the
morning, sometimes in the middle of the day, sometimes in late afternoon. It took us three visits to the lake before we finally found them, on our last morning in the park. It
was pouring rain when we showed up at 6am, but the otters were there to greet us.
