The traditional summer trek up the slopes of Mt. Washburn usually yields an encounter with the biggest resident of the mountain's upper slopes, the bighorn sheep. Usually one will
find groups of females, subadults and kids in this area. The females don't grow fully curved horns, so they actually look more like goats. The sheep have little to fear up here, and
are pretty tolerant of humans.
On this trip, we were actually hiking back down the mountain when this group came around a bend and climbed toward us. Before we knew it, adults had walked onto the trail behind us, while
the two youngsters were in front of us. We couldn't do anything but sit and snap away. Yet another wonderful wildlife encounter!
