Northern Flicker
Colaptes auratus

Somewhat of an annoyance here in the northwest (when they start pecking holes in the side of your house), this member of the woodpecker family is nonetheless is a pretty bird. This particular flicker was housed in this snag near the Tower store. The next day, we returned to find the nest torn to shreds. Clawmarks on the stump indicated that a bobcat or perhaps small bear cub was responsible for the destruction.
