Hasty Departure
Over the three hours we watched the badgers, mom came and went a few times. At one point, luckily when she was in the sett, a coyote came by to investigate, even sticking its muzzle down into the hole. Then it left. Soon after, the badger left again and then returned to summon its kits. The coyote's presence had prompted the badger to see a new abode, and the family cautiously worked their way up the hillside and out of sight. Unfortunately, when we passed through the valley a few hours later, a coyote was spotted near the road... with a baby badger head clamped in its jaws.
