We had heard about a couple of wolves chasing an elk near Petrified Tree while we were waiting out a black bear a couple miles away. When we were done with the bear, I decided to check out the area where the wolves had been seen... "because you never know."
Everything seemed empty and quiet, and we were just about to leave when two wolves (part of the Agate Pack) hurtled across the road out of nowhere and dashed across the hillside parallel to us. I had enough time to grab my lens, thrust it out the window and fire off some shots without knowing what the heck my settings were.
