American White Pelican
Pelecanus erythrorhynchos
We visited LeHardy Rapids in search of harlequin ducks (which we had photographed earlier in the week), but the ducks were gone, replaced by a couple of American white pelicans. It was disappointing at first, but the pelicans were good subjects, riding the rapids and standing proudly amidst the raging, crashing waves of the Yellowstone River.
