New Packs from MindShift Gear + New Nikkor Big Lenses

New Backpacks from MindShift Gear

An exciting announcement from my friends at MindShift Gear.  I’m constantly struggling to find the right pack that fits my gear (especially the long lens) and fits snugly as a carry-on, even on smaller planes.  Perhaps one of these packs is the answer.

From the press release:

“MindShift Gear just released three new outdoor photography backpacks designed specifically for travel and trekking, especially when carrying large lenses like a 70-200 or a 600mm. There are two major points of distinction.  The first is comfort.  These aren’t photography backpacks, but outdoor backpacks specifically designed for photography.  They have 11 adjustment points. The second is security.  The last thing you want to see out an airline window is your backpack filled with your most expensive and fragile gear being tossed onto a luggage cart.  The FirstLights are designed to comply with airline carry on requirements so that your gear stays near you.”

Nikkor 500mm and 600mm lenses

Another big announcement has come by the way of Nikon, which is releasing brand new 500mm and 600mm Nikkor lenses!  These big guns are now available for pre-order at B&H.  Pre-order the 500mm here.  Or pre-order the 600mm here.

Max, I see that Glazers and Kenmore Camera carry their products. Have you seen one of the backpacks in person yet. I’m also looking for the perfect backpack to carry big lenses. Might be time to go shopping.

Kevin, I haven’t seen the packs yet as they’ve only just been released, but MindShift is sending me one to test out and review. I’ll be putting it through the ringer on my Coastal Wolf tour next month. At this point I’ve owned four different photo packs, all of which have had positives and negatives. I’ll be really interested to see how this one stacks up.
