2024 in Review: Sharing My Clients’ Photos

I was accompanied by past client Mei-An for January’s Guyana scouting trip. We scored a great sighting of a giant anteater with a baby (a first for either of us!).

We were fortunate to get a chance to try our hand at Sunbittern wing-spread shots in Guyana.

Mei-An is teasing me with this one, since she got way better photos of the skittish reddish-brown bearded saki monkeys than I did.

Imagine being perched at the top of a steep cliff in front of the world’s tallest single-drop waterfall and finding the endangered (and tiny) golden rocket frog in nearby bromeliads. That’s what we did in Guyana, and Mei-An captured this lovely close-up.

Steve got a remarkably clear shot of a Marsh Owl with an elephant after sundown in Kenya’s Tsavo National Park.

Though we went to Kenya for one specific mammal, we were fortunate to see a number of other interesting species, including this pair of bat-eared foxes. They were generally quite shy, so April did well to nab this family portrait.

Aside from the black panther of Laikipia, we were fortunate to see some “spotty” leopards as well. This was one of the better moments, as this handsome male patrolled a river bed late one afternoon.

Steve also nailed some very nice photos during our last-gasp black panther encounter in March.

Pat did well to spot a common-but-difficult-to-photograph subject during the spring Yellowstone tour: the snowshoe hare!

Amy managed to capture a nice photo of our only clear owlet photo op of the spring Yellowstone trip.

Out of nowhere one morning, this absolutely psychotic looking black bear appeared and stood staring at us, unblinkingly, in the morning sunlight. Super creepy!

This was a big surprise during the Yellowstone tour. Though we never got clear views of this Great Gray, April gets all the credit for the spot!

I like Kevin’s minimalist composition featuring one of the odder characters we saw in Kenya, the Vulturine Guineafowl.

During one of our many fruitless searches for the black leopard in June, Kevin managed to capture a lovely sky behind this lone elephant.

African wild dogs took center stage during the June Kenya tour, and Kevin did a nice job capturing one of their victims, at this point just a play toy in the jaws of the predator.

During our fantastic tower session in the Amazon, Arlene did well to capture tufted capuchins feasting at eye level.

Nancy pulled off a number of fine action shots during our Brazil trip, none more impressive than this young leaping pacu, which was foraging for plants!

Tracy did well to spot the geometry in this Black Skimmer composition!

Arlene spied this lovely reflection of one of Brazil’s prettiest birds, the Capped Heron.

Tom nailed the full stretch here with one of our early jaguars.

We had a special opportunity to view giant otters frolicking briefly out of the water in Brazil, and Leah nailed it.

Leah captured this lovely portrait of a jaguar in Brazil. She also gets credit for the only “client-spotted” jaguar of the trip.

We enjoyed a couple of picturesque, moody mornings on the rivers of the Pantanal.

I loved the way Leah captured the full spray here.

During September’s Great Bear Rainforest trip, we had so much rain it was difficult to find clear views of the many grizzly bears. During one only-semi-moist stretch, this bear perched on a rocky outcropping for us as it snacked on a salmon carcass.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one trying to compose some harbor seal shots with the lovely backgrounds of the Great Bear Rainforest. Kevin saw it too!

Our final wildlife encounter of the Great Bear Rainforest trip involved this very cooperative sea otter.
