2020 Winter Wings Festival
Klamath Falls, Oregon
February 14 – 16, 2020
$25 (Photography Talk), $250 (Half-Day Photo Tour)
I’m excited to announce that I will be a guest presenter and tour leader at the 2020 Winter Wings Festival in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Put on by the Klamath Basin Audubon Society, the festival is celebrating its 41st year.
Birders and wildlife enthusiasts are encouraged to attend programs, field trips, and other activities that enhance the appreciation of the spectacular beauty of the Klamath Basin. Any surplus from the festival is used to support community outreach, wildlife, and youth education programs in the region.
This is a nice opportunity to explore a wildlife-rich area of southern Oregon while getting a chance to mingle with and learn from bird and wildlife enthusiasts, professional photographers and artists, and biologists and other naturalists.
This year’s festival runs from February 13 – 16. I will be participating in three events from the 14th through 16th:
February 14: “Wildlife and Photography: Telling Stories”
60-90 Minute Workshop/Lecture
$25 per person, max. 30 participants
Wildlife photography tells a story. It’s often a tale of a wild place and its denizens, one that may be told in a sequence of images, or just a single frame. I’ll discuss not only how to effectively tell a story using your images, but also how to listen and learn from the tales Mother Nature spins in order to improve our own photography and storytelling.
February 15: Wildlife Photography with Max Waugh
Half-Day Photo Tour
$250 per person, max. 12 participants
Join me in the field as we seek out resident wildlife and other natural subjects to photograph in the Klamath Falls area. With my guidance, we’ll look for opportunities to capture images of the region’s local species while working on our skills behind the lens, as well as the thought process that goes into effective, storytelling imagery. I will share my thoughts in regards to composition, choosing camera settings that help capture the style of images you wish to achieve, and understanding our subjects in hopes of landing better shots. I prefer to emphasize a friendly, laid back approach in the field (as opposed to an intense workshop atmosphere), welcoming questions, requests and open dialog as we search for fun things to photograph. There won’t be a test at the end of the session!
February 16: Wildlife Photography with Max Waugh
