Alaska Brown Bears Photo Tour

Come face to face with the brown bears of coastal Alaska on a summer tour in one of the world’s best spots for close-up bear photography!
We try to offer different bear experiences, with the next trip scheduled for 2027. Read on to make sure you’re choosing the tour that’s right for you.
2027 (June 21 – 27): Remote Lodge Experience
This early summer trip takes us to a remote lodge for a nearly-exclusive bear experience! We’ll be based away from the more popular beach areas in Lake Clark National Park with bears that are just emerging from hibernation and beginning to feast on coastal sedge grasses. If we are fortunate to see spring cubs, they’ll still be rather tiny at this stage. We’ll also have access to a nearby island to photograph the charismatic Horned and Tufted Puffins that roost there (weather- and tide-permitting). This is the trip you want if you’re seeking a truly private experience. Our 2025 trip to this spot was a huge success, and I can’t wait to return.
June 21: Fly into Homer, overnight in local hotel
June 22: Fly out to our private lodge in Lake Clark National Park
June 23 – 26: Photography with bears and other wildlife.
June 27: Depart for flights home.
2029 (August): Fishing Bears and Red Salmon
The initial trip in 2026 was a big success. I am hoping to schedule a return for August 2029 (in an attempt to space out my bear trips, 2028 will feature my Great Bear Rainforest adventure). If you are interested in learning more, please contact me for more information.
This is a photo adventure, emphasizing exploration and photography in the field rather than classwork. Max will be there to shoot alongside you and help provide optional instruction and tips on photography. This photo tour is a great fit for anyone from amateurs to professionals looking to photograph bears at close range on the beautiful Alaska coast. These tours will be limited to 8 guests in our private lodges, allowing for a more comfortable shooting environment and more one-on-one attention from your guides.
What’s Included in the Price of the 2027 Tour:
- Hotel in Homer for one night at the start of the trip.
- Air transportation to/from our private lodge from Homer
- All lodging and food during our stay at the lodge
- Boat excursion to photograph puffins
- Optional photo instruction by Max
- Local guiding provided by the lodge
- Park permits and fees
What is NOT Included in the Price of the 2027 Tour:
- Air transportation to/from Homer
- Transportation to/from our Homer hotel
- Alcohol (normally not stocked at the lodge, but may be available based on advanced requests)
- Gratuities for local guides and lodge staff
- Lodging before/after the trip.
- Single supplement lodging fee listed below
